 Development Squad Minimize

OUWLRC will be running a Development Squad in Trinity term 2009, beginning after Summer Eights. A successful information meeting was held recently; however, it is not too late to find out more and get involved -- please contact Caroline Dobbin

Development Squad will train and compete alongside our current squad at some excellent regattas, with the aim to qualify an intermediate eight for Henley Women’s Regatta on June 19-21. This program is intended for rowers considering trialling for the 2010 Lightweight Women's Boat Race, improve their rowing skills and experience training with a university squad; it will provide a great introduction to rowing for Oxford.

The program will be run out of our boat house in Wallingford, based at the OUBC Fleming Boat House. Getting to Wallingford is easy, in the past Development Squad rowers have used the frequent bus service between Oxford and Wallingford.

The Lightweight Women's Boat Race has a 59.0kg limit, however you don’t need to be any particular weight to join Development Squad; at this stage your bodyweight and erg scores aren’t important. What we are looking for is drive, commitment and potential! Four people from this year's triumphant 2009 Boat Race crew were developed from the 2008 Development Squad!

We understand that some of you will have a lot on with Summer Eights also in Trinity, so we aim to be as flexible as possible with your college training schedules so that you can enjoy both Summer Eights and the Development Squad program.

Please note:   To enter regattas you need to be a member of the ARA (Amateur Rowing Association), so if you intend to join our Development Squad please ensure your membership is up-to-date: www.ara-rowing.org. You will need to have Tethys Boat Club (our club's racing name) down as one of your clubs on the ARA's online system and you can choose other clubs too.
For more information please email Caroline Dobbin.
