Quintin Head & Park Run

On Saturday 5th February the OUWLRC traveled to the tideway to take part in Quintin VIIIs’ head. The course runs the reverse of the Championship course from University Post, Chiswick to Harrods Wharf over a distance 4.6 km. Conditions were looking to be a strong trail wind for the majority of the course.

We entered one VIII into the event, while our reserve crew took to park run’s across Oxfordshire in force. Multiple 5 km PB’s were set and we added some and top female results to the OUWLRC tally!

Back at Quintin, the VIII had marshaled above the start line before turning to race back downstream. After a rolling start under Chiswick Bridge the crew settled into a solid race rhythm past the University Post. We made our first move on Mortlake Anglican early into the race, prior to Barnes Bridge, this was a big confidence booster. The middle section of the course between Barnes Bridge and the Eyot was gusty and choppy as expected. However, a chunky middle section set us up for our second overtake past Marlow. A big finish under Hammersmith Bridge took us across the line in a winning time for our division! Overall a tremendously successful day for OUWLRC and lots of race and tideway experience gained.

A big thank you to Quintin Boat Club for hosting us and organizing the event!
